Mayo line up series of fundraising events

Mayo GAA have lined up a series of fundraising events in the lead up to and after next Sunday's All Ireland senior football final in Croke Park. After the final the official Mayo GAA team banquet will take place in Citywest hotel on Sunday evening September 18. Tables of ten cost €800 or tickets can be purchased individually for €80. Mayo County Council Arts Office has announced the deadline for the Amateur Drama Award, Music Recording Assistance Awards, Tyrone Guthrie Regional Bursary Scheme, and an inaugural Film Mayo Tyrone Guthrie bursary. The closing date for all the above awards and bursaries is Monday October 3.

The Mayo senior footballers are ready to go for their All Ireland final meeting with Dublin in a fortnight's time. At the county's press briefing ahead of the final on Wednesday night, manager Stephen Rochford fielded questions on the situation in the camp with Diarmuid O'Connor's fitness being the first question up, and the Crossmolina man replied saying: "Diarmuid is alive and well. We’ve trained three times since the Tipperary game and he’s been in all those sessions as has everyone else. We have 33 fit guys at this moment in time thank God."

MMTradfest hopes to attract fifty thousand to Mayo this summer

The return of the Failte Ireland and Wild Atlantic Way supported annual six day Mayo Manchester ‘MMTradfest’ is expected to attract more than 50,000 people to Ballina at the end of July. The six day festival which runs from Friday July 29 to Wednesday August 3 features Irish musicians, singers, and dancers from both Mayo and Manchester. It is a unique collaboration between the two areas. Just over 100 performers are involved at more than 60 events in the Tradfest which takes place in and around Ballina in north Mayo.
